Attack on Melbourne Cardiothoracic Surgeon Condemned

President of the Council of Procedural Specialists, Dr Gary Speck AM, has condemned an attack on Melbourne Heart Surgeon Dr Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann, which took place in the foyer of Box Hill Hospital in Victoria at 7:20 pm yesterday.

“I know I speak for all procedural specialists across Australia when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with Dr Pritzwald-Stegmann and his family at this difficult time.  We are all hoping he will survive this dreadful act of violence.”

“We understand that a person has been charged over the attack and we thank the police and emergency health professionals for their swift response to this dreadful incident.”

The Council of Procedural Specialists will work with State Governments and hospital administrators in any way we can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of health professionals working in our public and private hospitals.
