COVID-19 Statement

An extraordinary meeting of the Council of Procedural Specialists (COPS) to discuss COVID-19 was held at 8:30 pm on 16/03/2020.

  1. COPS urgently calls for the Federal and State Health Ministers to take immediate action to urgently ensure the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all hospital doctors and health care workers (HCW) including the supply of N95 facial masks and related equipment. Practical training on the use of this equipment must be immediately implemented to ensure the safety of all HCW.
  2. COPS will support any appropriate organised coordination of all hospitals into COVID and non-COVID hospitals in a way that will provide an effective response to the C-19 virus and at the same time maintain essential surgery for the duration of the pandemic.
  3. COPS advises all procedural specialists to prepare for a disruption to routine surgical operating lists and to advise patients accordingly.
