Sad Loss For Australian Medicine

“The death of Melbourne cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann is a painful loss to his family, his patients and to Australian medicine, ” Dr Gary Speck AM, Chairman of the Council of Procedural Specialists said in Melbourne today.

“I know that doctors across Australia will be shocked at his death from injuries he received in a violent attack whilst leaving Box Hill Hospital in Melbourne in late May this year.

He will be sadly missed.   It’s a tragedy and yet another example of the cost of needless violence.  The Council of Procedural Specialists sends its condolences to Dr Pritzwald-Stegmann’s family, friends and all of our cardiothoracic colleagues at this difficult time.

Those that know him will remember him for his contribution, dedication and skill and not just the tragic and painful circumstances of his sudden death.

We will work cooperatively with anyone who has practical solutions to help prevent these incidents occurring in the future.  We also await with interest the outcome of the judicial process surrounding this tragic event.
